If I could photograph one type of wedding over and over again, it would be a Joshua Tree National Park wedding like this one. Give me a gorgeous desert backdrop, a couple that's completely obsessed with each other, and a day that's centered around actually getting married instead of rushing through a million traditions. Lauren and Avant's wedding checked every box. They were the sweetest humans, their vows had everyone emotional (myself included), and Joshua Tree showed off in the best way possible!
Why I'll Never Get Tired of Photographing a Joshua Tree National Park Wedding
Joshua Tree is one of those places that doesn't need much. The giant rock formations, the Joshua trees, the warm desert colors... it's already such an incredible backdrop that you can keep everything else simple and it still feels so intentional. That's exactly what Lauren and Avant did. They invited the people who mattered most, found the perfect spot in the park, and exchanged the most heartfelt vows as the sun started dropping behind the mountains. There wasn't a bunch of extra fluff or distractions. Just two people soaking in one of the biggest moments of their lives, and honestly, those are always my favorite weddings to photograph.
Sometimes the Best Photos Happen When the Light Doesn't Go as Planned
Here's a little behind-the-scenes secret: we totally underestimated how quickly we'd lose the sun after the ceremony. The ceremony light was absolutely unreal, but by the time family photos wrapped up, the sun had disappeared behind the mountains before we had taken a single couples portrait. So... we pivoted. Fast. We chased every last bit of good light we could find, kept everyone moving, and somehow made absolute magic happen. Looking at their gallery now, you'd never guess we were racing against the sunset. And honestly? I think that's one of my favorite parts of this job. Outdoor weddings keep you on your toes, but years of photographing in places like this means I know how to adapt quickly when nature decides to change the plan. Lauren and Avant completely trusted me, and seeing how excited they were when they got their gallery made every second of that sprint worth it.
Planning a National Park Wedding? Let's Do It!
If you're the kind of couple that's dreaming about mountains, deserts, forests, or anywhere that gets you outside instead of inside a ballroom, we're probably going to get along really well. I'd absolutely love to photograph more weddings like this. Whether you're planning a Joshua Tree National Park wedding or another adventure somewhere surrounded by nature, I'm all in. If you want photos that feel natural, relaxed, and like you while making the most of whatever Mother Nature throws our way, I'd love to help bring it to life.
