Brea and Brendan’s wedding at Wax Rabbit was sexy, stylish, and just ridiculously fun to photograph. They chose Wax Rabbit inside Durango Casino for their celebration, and the second you see the red velvet, moody lighting, and speakeasy feel, you get it. Add in Brea’s lace mini, Brendan’s retro-inspired look, champagne, and a whole lot of personality, and we had everything we needed. The best part? We had just 30 minutes to take all of their portraits before their guests arrived, so we got right to it!

A Wedding at Wax Rabbit Made for Something a Little Different

I LOVE when couples choose a space that already has a strong point of view, and Wax Rabbit definitely does. Instead of trying to transform a blank room, Brea and Brendan leaned into what was already there, the deep reds, dramatic curtains, cool bar, and low lighting. It gave their photos that sultry, high-fashion feel without anything feeling overly staged.

And this is exactly why I love a smaller, vibey space for a wedding or reception. You can build the entire look of your day around a venue that already feels like you. Wax Rabbit gave us so many good little pockets to work with that even with our 30-minute timeline, we were able to create a gallery that feels varied, intentional, and very Brea and Brendan.

You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose for Your Wedding at Wax Rabbit

One of the biggest things I hear from couples is some version of, “But we have no idea what to do in front of the camera.” GOOD. You don’t need to. I’m not expecting you to arrive with a Pinterest board of poses memorized. Once I meet you and see how you naturally interact, I can usually tell pretty quickly what kind of direction is going to work for the two of you.

For Brea and Brendan, I leaned into more high-fashion, sultry posing because it fit their chemistry, their outfits, and the whole mood of Wax Rabbit. With another couple, I might approach the exact same space completely differently. That’s the point.
